We are familiar with GRT through the local botanical garden, does it make for a distinct honey flavor or is it just one ingredient from landscape larder? Lovely spot there.

Mel, I have no idea about the taste because it is in fact just one in a large mix. We usually have very light colored honey (with a heavenly taste!) I think much of ours is clover from our fields but there is black locust, holly, yellow poplar and some others. I tell people my honey is mostly ragweed and poison ivy.

The bees are in the golden rain trees for about one month each year, usually from mid June to mid July. They are there from first light in the morning until it starts getting dark. I have seen at least 7 species of insects in the tree at the same time. I estimated 2000-4000 bees in one tree at once!

The Golden Rain Tree is considered an invasive by many due to the prolific population by seed. I have no trouble with these since I mow underneath. I've given seeds to other beekeepers in the area.
