George has mentioned that Colonial Williamsburg has a video of his shop (musical instrument makers shop) building a spinet (harpsichord) and a violin. I've had this video for many years and love it. It is well worth the cost. I get it out and watch it every so often, it's very well done. Just the way a spinet is made is so much different than a piano. The strings are plucked instead of hammered. The jigs and tools George came up with to build these things is pretty fascinating.

“Musical Instrument Maker of Williamsburg” is one of an esteemed series of videos that look at the trades programs of Colonial Williamsburg. Modern day craftspersons are trained, under a master-apprentice system, to use the tools and techniques of the eighteenth century to create 21st century replicas of colonial objects. In this video master instrument maker George Wilson and two journeymen take viewers from raw materials to finished instrument as they create a small harpsichord, and a violin.
