Want a complete set of new Lie-Nielsen hand planes? 35 planes, 25 with extra blades. PLUS a dovetail and carcass saw! All original boxes. I have no interest in this listing . . . I just happened upon it on CraigsList.

I saw the same listing on eBay earlier. If I were awash in money...

One could buy the lot and keeps what he needs and resale the rest and I'm sure you would make money or at least come even! But like Tristan said...

I am scratching my head, why would anyone buy these tools in such large quantity and then sell them without using them. Specially if some of them were in the first 100.

Might be an estate sale. The original collector may have died and the executor/beneficiary is wanting to liquidate the collection quickly. It's a guess.

Depending on the current price, someone like myself, only with money, could buy them just for the planes they do not have with hopes of selling off the others to recoup the cost.

Then again, my accumulation of Stanley bench planes is working fine and already takes up enough space.

I'm too lazy to go to the LN site, add up all the prices and the compare it to 8K. Anybody want to do the math? I wouldn't believe the seller's claim without crunching the numbers.

What does complete set mean? Does it mean each version in standard, corrugated, and high angle frogs? No pics of block planes or specialty planes.

Of course I couldn't resist Ken's challenge so here is a quick breakdown of the major L-N categories that might apply to this sale (tho there are more planes listed here than 35)

Bench planes (13 planes) - $4245
No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 4 1/2, 5, 5 1/4, 5 1/2, 6, 7, 8, 10 1/4, High angle frog

Block planes (12 planes) - $2355
102, 103, 9 1/2, 60, model makers, convex sole, skew, rabbet, low angle smoothing, iron miter, low angle jack, low angle jointer

Shoulder planes (4) - $809
bronze 1/2, small, medium, large

Specialty planes (10) - $1549
T&G, side rabbet, bronze edge, small chisel, large chisel, bronze beading, butt mortise, scrub, small router, large router

Scraping planes (3) - $625
small, cabinet, large

Saws (2) - $262
dovetail, carcase

Scrapers (2) - $60
Gooseneck, straight

42 planes - $9583
25 blades (est $40/ea) - $1000
2 saws - $262
2 scraper sets - $60

The Grand total is just shy of $11K, of course you have to knock off 7 planes somewhere which knocks off another $750 or so depending on which planes aren't included.
