Lidded box

Unknown wood. Turned from single block of wood. Approx. 3 3/4" wide and high. Oil and wax finish. Photos a bit yellow, back ground should be white.

Nice orientation of the wood, and nice form. Whatever it is, it has some tight growth rings.

Foot 1 3/4" , just high enough to get it off the tale top. I was intending to remove it, but decided it would be harder to pick it up with the larger diameter near the bottom.

This is really quite nice, Allan. I see so many small boxes and very little to really set them apart. This one has got a lot of personality. The shape of the box and lid are a bit different "the usual" and the way you used the figure in the wood adds a lot of interest.

I don't know why, but this is just cool!! Kind of a big flat spot under the rim...but the shape, wood and lid are all really fun! Finish looks right on the $$ so go make more!

Allan, that is a really great looking box. There is something about the shape that says pick me up. If you don't mind, I plan to try and duplicate that shape. I need to start making some boxes to get ready for the box making class taught by Mike Stafford at JCC Folk School in June. I took the class last year, but had so much fun, thought that I would take it again.
