What does a lipping planer do? I found one described here, but it does not say what it is for. Thanks, Todd.

Todd, I use mine to trim down the countertop/desktop solid wood edging to the level of the laminate. I usally back off a 32nd or so on the width and scrape the last little bit at the edge of the laminate. Made the mistake once or twice of adjusting the cutter too close to laminate, and had to replace whole top. I have the Virutex machine. It has an adjustable fence not like the Hoffman, which has no fence, but it is also cheaper, in the $400/$500 range.
