Since you're posting here, I assume it's for a lathe?
I suppose turning it is out of the question...:p

Nope, turning it actually sounds like a good idea. I'm concerned about the life span of it. It's for the tailstock.

Try Mcmaster carr, they have a very large selection.

If you want something sturdy and to make it yourself you can turn both aluminum and brass with your hss tools on a woodworking lathe.
