View Full Version : My Daughter's Dresser in Progress "PICS"

Evening All

Well I was off work last week and got a good start on my Daughter's bedroom set.

Here's a front view, The front is quarter sawn red oak.

Leg detail, shows the rays of the 8/4 quarter sawn red oak. Man, it wasn't easy to find and expensive.

All the dust frames and drawer dividers are assembled using sliding dovetails. Another learning experience.

Finished and attached the top today and started the 3-wing mirror. Next will be the hand cut dovetails drawers.

I was planning on using walnut for the drawer fronts and aromic cedar for the drawer bottoms.

Mike, that's beautiful. She's going to love it. I've never built anything quite that big. A question though. It appears to be about 5 feet wide. How thick is that bottom rail? It appears light (which is really nice aesthetically) and in my inexperience, I would be afraid of it breaking under fully loaded drawers. A little education in dresser construction for me maybe? :D Thanks for sharing.

The bottom rail is 2" thick, along with the dust frames and the strength the back adds, I wouldn't have problems parking my F-150 on top of it.

Ooops it's 1 1/2" thick not 2", still not concerned about strength though.

Great joinery and I love the flared legs! That's going to be a beauty and your daughter should be very proud. 'Can't wait to see the finished piece once you get there!

nice dresser I like the raised panel sides,,,,,,,my lcd screen is shot so I can't see pictures real good,,,(this is not good between my tired eyes and a bad LCD) but what I could see it looks great,,,,,
