Well....I am GLAD to say that I go off call in less than 9 hours..!!!

Another weekend has come and gone.....I didn't get much shop time this weekend due to "work" work. I have made a LOT of progress on son #2's chest-of-drawers and expect to have it finished and ready for delivery to his room by Thursday of this week. After this.....I don't want to have to build another single chest-of-drawers for a while.!!! 3 chest-of-drawers down and NO MORE to go.!!!! :)

So what did YOU do this weekend?

Best of weeks.....

Built a mini-Secretary for my wife.
Installed five new overhead cabinets in the shop.
Mowed the grass (Yes, it is unusual to do that in January).
Made son a fishing rod rack.
Installed son's computer.
Watched Football.

Finished the 13 mahogany picture frames that I have been tripping on for 3 months. Finished the 2 poplar columns that I had fits with masking tape. Both items get delivered Monday or Tuesday. Made 14 walnut plywood (3/4", thick, picture frame style) frames that will get cherry plywood inserts (1/4") to use as the back of a bookcase to go in the "study" project I'm working on. Cleaned the shop some. Watched some football. Wife was sick this weekend, so just laid low. Todd.

Looks good Jack, your shop will be nice and clean for when the shop tour forum is ready.

It was mostly quit for the weekend. Still 1 ˝ bottles of Jack left and a half case still in the fridge. I did end up spending a little time in the shop. I made a coat rack for the neighbor across the street. He is refinishing the whole house in red oak trim after he had oak flooring installed. This was a late Christmas present for them.

Sadly, I didn't get much time in the shop over the weekend, although I did during last week. That time was spent milling several hundred board feet of poplar for upcoming projects and to get it on the storage rack so I can bring in the rest that is still outside on the pile. Some plugging issues with the DC system slowed down that process... The weekend was spent helping SWMBO put our dining room back in order and some other housecleaning tasks necssary since the kitchen rennovation before we can get back on a service. Other than that, I put up two new reviews on my site (FS-350 and Festool PS-300 EQ) and started some planning for a cyclone upgrade which includes moving the walls of the closet to better support the new unit and some duct work changes. Sunday night, Ali and I had a high school friend of mine over for a nice dinner and conversation. She's lived in this area for over 18 years and we only became reconnected a few years ago.

I got tired of watching football on Saturday, so I went out in the shop. A short time later my granddaughter came to the door and asked if she could come out in the shop. She wanted to make something. So we made a wooden enclosure for a suet feeder to dress it up a bit. My son had seen the one I made for ours and liked it.

She helped with the sanding and drilling holes on the drill press. At age 4-1/2 most anything else is beyond her at this point.

Then Sunday afternoon, while I was tuning up the snowblower she came out again and wanted to make something, so I used some scrap lumber I got from our contractors (they throw out 1 X 6 pine short pieces) and we made a blue bird house. Again she helped with the drilling on the drill press and holding while I nailed. Then she wanted to paint it. She chose a blue stain I had as it was for blue birds.

We'll try to go hang it out in the back field this week.

Pulled plenty of wire for the shop and kitchen. Adding lots of drops. Upgrading most of it for my 100 year old bungalow.

Previous owner was a “handy dandy”. He left no grounds, spliced wire with crimp-on butt joints in the conduit, and reversed polarity through out a circuit  . Very scary :( .

Pulled a dedicated 220 30 amp for the new cabinet saw of the near future :D . I’ve been following your recommendations and taking notes.

One more day of clean up then back to work.

Have a good week. Safety first.

Mark, that's TWO weeks in a row of major cardiac arrest! You're right...Don't know how much longer I can take this and, next week, promises to be more of the same against a real tough team! BTW, you got any extra Nitro tabs handy?! :D Go-o-o-o Pack!

I'll have to second Tyler's statement on the "no comments about the Vikings" ;)

I've been on a two week long weekend (time gloat) and finished up this TS cabinet and then started on a shop stool, which I've needed for some time.

Well, lets see....

I got a new 300 watt (dual 150's) halgoen light tube installed and moved my little halogen spots to my drill press. Was able to get them all so they turn on with a single flick of a switch. I was in heaven, until I realized with all this light I could see the mess I was calling my shop :D

I did start to clean up, got two great big giant bags of trash out of there. Something that should have been done long ago. Some of that stuff has been there since I moved into the house 3.5 years ago.

Got some of the final hardware and finishing touches on the shed outside. I also got the kids new wagon put together, of course I couldn't stand the wheels on it so...a trip to Harbor Freight, 20 Bucks, and a couple of bushings made from 5/8" OD pex and that wagon has ball bearing pnumatic knobby tires :D Dad was happy, and the kids love it.

That was about it. I had some absolutely fantastic family time and seriously wish it wasn't over and that I could get paid to stay home and do that stuff every day.

Eric,

Thanks for the pictures. The cabinet looks well built and very functional. I would assume that the narrow drawer on the left is for blades? If you don’t mind, I would like to copy your design. :D I also have a left tilt saw (Grizzly) and was trying to figure out what to put under the table to use up the space. I have a different roller stand so I could put a drawer where you have the opening for your kick stand.

Again, very nice addition to the saw.

It aint exactly easy being an Eagles fan ya know - if you have any nitro left send it my way. Should be an interesting game - my Dad is a rabid Eagles fan & his lady is a rabid Packers fan  No matter the outcome I don't want to be anywhere near them when they get back from the game

As for the weekend not much - Cleaned the shop up a little bit (of course some peoples definition of clean is different than mine(ahem Jack & Terry)) and started on a major shop organization program. Started building a rolling grinding station / tool storage cabinet - lots of good tips from the creek but no Todd it's not done yet

Also finished cleaning out my stuff from my old office & bringing it home.
Have a great week everyone.

I went to the Fiesta Bowl ($1k later) I get to watch my team play terrible and lose. I was really hoping to beat OSU. Anyway, the town and time was fun, except for the outcome of the game. All I could think of was for that kind of money I could have a new bandsaw. Time to save the pennies again and maybe a new bandsaw wll be int he shop by summer.Got home early Sunday morning.

Spent the day watching football, some family time and a little shop cleaning since the EC is done. Began laying out the next project. Went through all of the catalogs and tossed all but the latest. Except my 5 years of Grizzly, they're so purdy I hate to toss them. Unpacked the Jorgies that I got cheap during the frenzy, but realized I needed more clamp storage so now they lay in the corner without boxes (progress I guess).

Jack, Looks awesome, I noticed you didn't show a pic of the corner where all the crap is piled on the floor. :D But the rest looks 10 times better then when I stopped by the other day.

Now go make some dust.

I took advantage of a day off Saturday and our first snowstorm Sunday and spent two days on projects. I make an elaborate chickadee house that I sell at art fairs in summer and fall and sell a few for Christmas gifts so I needed to re-stock. I took a trip to John Milinas country to get some raw material (red cedar logs) and cranked our seven bird house bodys Sunday. I usually take samples of the wood I use when I go to a fair - many people have never seen the inside of a limb or log of red cedar or the stuff I use for finials or trim such as yew, lilac etc - so I split a knot or crotch and sand and finish it nicely just to show. Last fall a fellow insisted on buying two of these samples despite my protestations (but I couldn't pass up the $50 bucks he offered) so I just finished up three more samples. Hope he's at the fair again this year.

Clean up! Made some progress on blast gates, a new lid for the dust collector bins and converted some scrap (some oak on balsa plywood and some oak I salvaged from a pallet!) into some extra shelves for the kitchen cabinet. And converted a bunch of stuff that has been lying around into firewood. The shop is looking much better for it all!

Oh yeah - watched the Packers-Seahawk game. My heart still years for SF so I just annoyed my neighbors by continually asking "Why is that good?" "But who is that bad for?" I may not be invited again. :)

Eric - like the TS cabinet. I notice you have it built on the mobile base. I'm considering something similar on my DeWalt, but I'm wondering if the weight of the cabinet is too great for the lift mechanism.

So, do you ever plan on rolling this set up around, or are you confident that it will be ok?

Thanks for the post - I'll have to keep those pictures.

So Jim, we didn't you drop me a line and stop over?! BTW, where are you picking up your Cedar logs? I buy the bulk of my wood as raw stock at Timbergreen, just outside of Spring Green.
