    What is your opinion of kids these days? Everyone has a different answer for that question. But all answers involve kids using in computers and new technology. If you were in my high school when the buses arrive in the morning you would see almost every student has an ipod, cell phone, or other type of mp3 player.   2. Being a Shop Teacher part 3

    I am going to start sharing experiences I have had as a teacher. First all of the experiences are at least a year old and all of the student names have been changed. Positive and negative experiences will be shared, but I feel that I have many more positive experiences.

    I am student teaching at a high school in Southwest Virginia. Student teaching lasts about 14 weeks, but it feels much longer. I am teaching all wood technology courses. This is my ideal teaching situation. ...

    I left off on talking about the fringe benefits. To continue that here are a few more.
    • This job works well with your children's schedule. I know many teachers that are on the same school schedule as their children. With vacations it really maximizes your time with your kids.
    • Snow days
    • Teacher respect-most people have respect for teachers, even more for teachers that work with teenagers, once you tell them you let the kids use tools they think your superhuman.

  4. Being a Shop-teacher

    I am starting this blog because I want to share my experiences as a teacher. The fact is that we need woodwork, industrial arts, and tech. ed. teachers badly. Currently if schools can not find a teacher for something like a carpentry class the class and the facilities go away. Schools in my county have converted production facilities into computer labs, orchestra rooms, ROTC rooms, etc. If this blog helps one person decide to try teaching it will be well worth my time.

  5. Birthday Waterfall Bubinga #2

    I'm off finishing LOML's Cherry Blanket Chest and a hundred other "Honey Do's" While I'm doing that, I will be finding a local source with a drum sander that does 30" wide. I figure that I will get started making the first cut in February or so
