  2. Shellac

    Well tonight I added the first coat of shellac to my first real woodworking table. I made a few tables before that were very simple and straight from plans so we will see how this one turns out. Hopefully good since the 8 stitches I received were more expensive then a nice table from a high end furniture store.

  3. Swirl Inlay W/Table Saw Jig

    Here is a tutorial on the "Swirl" inlay that I use, but with a twist, this time I made a little jig for the table saw.

    As you can see it is a small simple sled. I then took the sled and marked a line of what I thought would be a good angle for most pen blanks. I don't know what the exact angle is... I just eye balled it. It is more than 45 degree's of that I'm sure of.

  4. "Makers Mark"?? What to name my shop??

    I had a friend drop by to pick up an oval coffee table I built for him in the arts and crafts style and, after looking it over and giving his enthusiastic approval, asked me where I put the "Makers Mark"?

    I've made a few dozen projects for others and have never added a makers mark (although one lady wanted me to sign her rocker), but he insisted that I needed one and offered to make me a branding iron. I've seen these in some catalogues, so I guess it's a fairly popular ...

  5. Triple Screw Curved Vise

    After reading Chris Schwarz's new Workbenches book, I was inspired to make a protortype twin-screw vise. But after having made one and playing with it for a little while, I noticed two deficiencies. One, it is a little overkill (size-wise) for holding drawer components for dovetailing and such. Two, when clamping wide panels, the vise seems to put more pressure on the edges than the middle.
