    Hey All,

I'm new here to Sawmill Creek and to the Grizzly Green Monster Group. I'm looking to purchase my first lathe in the near future and have been considering the Grizzly G0632. The features and price all look nice. Now I hear that they just came out with a new lathe for this year (not sure of model #) and will be taking a look at that. Hopefully my catalog comes today otherwise it should be online on Jan 1st.

I already own two Grizzly machines, the G1023RLX table saw and the G0490X 8" jointer. I love both pieces. I need to add a lathe to my line up. Thanks for reading.

Welcome, Randy! The G0632 has been a workhorse of a lathe for several years. It is actually a clone of the Jet 1642 evs, and has one additional feature, the headstock pivots for outboard turning. I know about 3 people who have been using one for several years with reliable service from their unit.......don't think you will go wrong with that lathe for sure! Post some of your work when you get a chance.......we have a good group of folks here on the GGMG, so make yourself right at home!

All my work has been furniture pieces. That's why I'm interested in learning to turn wood. Something different and new to do. Thank you for the welcome. I'll post some pics once I figure out how to.

Welcome, Red. Lot's of turners on SMC who also do, or started out doing, a lot of flat work. The lathe is a great addition to your shop. In addition to being able to turn for furniture, you'll find it generally lets you produce finished items a lot more quickly! Until you take up segmented turning. Or discover the infinite possibilities of embellishing with pyrography, piercing, carving, dyeing, painting... If you don't yet belong to a local turning club, that's a great way to learn quickly and more safely. I've yet to meet a turner who isn't happy to share experience and knowledge.
