2" shorter legs on the newer G0766"s?

I was looking through some of the pics posted here, and on one of the pics a discussion ensued about the height of the G0766. Keith Buxton chimed in that a friend got one, and his legs were 2" shorter than his G0766. He mentions the friend got his at the end of 2015, so I am now wondering if Grizzly is shipping the newer G0766's with two inch shorter leg castings?

Anybody in the group have the same 2" difference or know of any one who's 0766 is shorter than their own?

I went to Grizzly's website, and looked at the spec sheet.....still lists the spindle height at 47-13/16" from the floor, but the revised manual lists the spindle height at 46-1/4" .......looks like they must have made some changes in the leg castings..........seems they have been taking to heart the input from turners who got this unit, and are/have perfected the issues........new banjo, new spindle, now leg castings are shorter to lower the beast.

Seems the official amount is 1-9/16ths inches.

Roger, that is very interesting information. Thank you for mentioning this.

I see that in the replacement parts list that they show a version two or V2 (79V2) of the legs in the parts list and pictorial but in the section to order the new legs, it just refers to a "stand V1" and it is listed as "N/A" - - for not available. In the various parts that are available in the V2 versions, I see in the description that it also lists what appears to be the cut-over date. For instance, "TOOL REST BASE LOCK LEVER V2.07.15". That is about the point in time when Shiraz Balolia committed to fixing the banjo. Perhaps they also decided to fix other things at the same time.

This kind of disturbs me that Griz wasn't forthcoming on this change to the people who were willing to buy the very early versions of this lathe. I have posted on SMC that I have some shoulder issues that have developed as a result of the high floor to spindle height.

I would think that if Griz has shortened the legs because they think that the shorter legs are better or that the longer legs were a mistake/error/product deficiency that affected the merchantability or if they just considered it a specification change to improve the quality.

I'm wondering if they would send out the shorter legs either at no cost or at a reasonable cost.

If I had recently purchased and received a new G0766 lathe, and was a person less than six feet in height and received the longer legs rather than the shorter legs, I would have tech support send me out a new set of legs.

Are there others out there who think that the floor to spindle height of the original G0766 was too tall and find it a little uncomfortable to use?

Sorry roger was going to post this out and got side tracked the new legs are 2" shorter and fit on the older lathes just fine. My friend is over 6 foot tall and I am 5' 10 and he was have troubles with the lathe being just a little to low for him and I had to stand on several rubber mats to be comfortable. So last weekend we swapped legs and now we both have a lathe that is at the right height.

Keith, when did your friend get his short legs on the G0766?

Sounds like your swap was a win-win situation.

I believe it was around or November of last year. He was looking to buy a bigger lathe and came by to look at mine. I had a neighbor over who was turning a lamp for a Christmas present. It was on the weekend and Monday he drove to Springfield MO. and picked his up we live just out side of St. Louis MO. so a 7 hour round trip. We did not notice the difference until another member of our wood turning group that has a G0766 was over at his house last month and was turning on it and was having to bend over alittle to turn the inside of a bowl. we started measuring the spindle height and his was 2 inches short then ours. My spindle height now is 46 1/4 " to center. Just right for me when I stand on a rubber mat.
