Had my 766 about a month now and loving it. But I have a question about how to use the switches for turning the lathe on and off. The way I have been switching on and off is to open the plastic push button cover then pushing the ON button. I leave that button ON for the duration of my turning session and use the direction selection switch to turn the lathe on and off. I only push the Red Off button once I am finish turning of an extended period of time. Is this the correct method?

I do not use the forward/reverse button to turn off my 0766. I use the green button to turn on, the red button to turn off, and simply use the speed control knob to turn the lathe to zero rpm's to check my work. There is a built in safety device that requires the forward/reverse lever to be turned to the neutral position before the green on button is pushed. Doing so reminds the turner to check the speed button from being on high rpms, and starting the lathe. Always turn off with the red button, and use the f/R lever for that purpose before pushing the green button to turn on. Always check the speed control to make sure its turned all the way down before pushing the green on button.
