I have the GO733. I know I will need to drill out the tool rest holder to 1 inch diameter as no one makes anything for the 25mm. I was thinking about starting out with the simple captive bar system that Captn. Eddie makes once he is back up and running well again. Is there anything out there that is as good or better for the money?

Terry......I am not familiar with Capt'n Eddie's system, but I do own the Monster Articulated rig and have used the Jamesion captive system.......both are fine hollowing systems, and you would do well with either, I suspect. There are some guys who make knock-offs of the Jamieson setup ......you must know how to weld or have a buddy that can do it for you. Materials can be had fairly cheaply, but you need to study what is out there and be sure before you commit to a design. I like the quality of the Monster setup.........it is first rate, although you do pay for it, but one of those truisms of life is we get what we pay for!

Terry:Made the Capt'n Eddie system w several modifications.1:I made sure the base and vertical plates were all 1/4" thick. 2:I made the vertical system adj. Required 2 base systems. 1 for 8-14" height lathes. 2nd for 16-22" height lathes. Since I demo, needed to fit various. 3rd:modification was on the long bar: made it 6" instead of 14" . Then I drilled holes for pivot holes at both ends.Allowed me to weld the 3/4 tube for 5/8"& 1/2" bore tools. On the opposite side, welded a 1/2" tube which allowed for 3/8"& 1/4" tools. Just flip the bar>works great for the small stuff as well as the big stuff. Next I made a laser pointer for under $10. It bolts into the unused hole of the boring bar. Made it adjustable in height & length. Have it on 110v supply so never have to worry about battery life. Made other small improvements, a better bearing at pivot points- in all <$60 for everything! And I love it- just finished a 17.5" dia vase 16" long. If interested I will post a picture or 2

Please post a link to Captain Eddies Hollowing System. I went to J C Campbell Folk School last year for deep hollowing class, and we use the ELBO system; the teacher also had the GIZMO system. Too pricey for me. I've used a set of tools made by Jimmy Greenwood, and it was much easier. But I am looking at options.

    I found it here:

I've used ELBO, which was was great for a beginner because it is totally captive, and seen the GIZMO, which is similar but more rugged. The hollowing tools I have used are similar, but I think I can make Cap'n Eddie's for pretty cheap. Once that new lathe is delivered and setup, I'm going for the gusto.
