Any idea of net weight of the G0733 lathe? The packaged weight is listed as 547#.

I don't want a ballast shelf/box filled with sand or pea gravel. I would rather build new hollow leg ends to be filled with pea gravel or concrete, because I want 1-2 roll around cabinets in the 50" area between the legs with drawers & pull out shelves for lathe accessories & sharpening gear to be able to roll underneath the lathe when not in use & pulled out & position where needed according to the turning being done. This way I'll only be a few steps away from anything needed during a turning project.

Unless you plan to turn a lot of off balanced large pieces, you should be OK with your cabinets. If you do want to turn the very big stuff you can bolt it down to the floor.

I don't think the packaging crate weighs over 47 lbs. Bart, so I think around the 500 lb. mark is a good guess. I agree with Terry.........you could always bolt it to the floor if you want.......lag bolts can be removed if you need to move it around at some point.

I would love to see some pictures of the cabinets and sharpening system in place when you get them done.

Terry it will be awhile because I need to get back into a shop building first. All my house hold goods & shop equipment is in storage.

Roger has told me that there is approximately 50" between the legs. When the time comes I'll need to determine whether to build 2 roll rounds on one big one. I just think it would be nice to have the area underneath the lathe completely clear when in use & have the roll rounds fit within the base area of the lathe when not in use.
