Hi all, new member here, not new to Grizzly machinery though, as I have been buying their products or machines for about 10 years now. So far I own; G1023RL table-saw, G0555 ultimate band-saw, G7943 12" drill press, and just yesterday ordered a Grizzly lathe G0658. Couldn't pass on the lathe, I had looked at it a few times and it was listed for $450, then on Wednesday of this wee I noticed that it dropped to $359.99, so I could not pass it up!!! Can't wait to get it and looking forward to learning how to turn.

Welcome to the GGMG Jak...........looking forward to seeing you post some pics of your work. From what I have heard the G0658 is a sweet midi lathe. A few of the group here has that model and it seems to be a good one.

Thanks for the welcome Roger, I appreciate it. New to this forum but not new to chat forums at all. I really like chat forums, been a member to several different types; motorcycles, cars, trucks.........and you can always extract some very good, useful, first hand information from these forums. I am also new to turning and I thought that would be a good lathe to start with. For some reason Grizzly is going to discountinue that particular model, they knocked off another $100 last week and I managed to get the last one they had. So I figure at $359 I didn't do too bad!
I do have some experience with wood working, been a builder of some type all my life. Not to say I am going to pick-up on this and be a seasoned pro in no time, by any means, but I do have some genral knowledge of. I did do some turning back in school when they still offered wood-shop classes, not that I really remember any of it.
Oh well, now just waiting on the new toy to arrive.

Got my G0658 in on Monday afternoon, spent the following 2 evenings getting it set-up out in the garage. Part of it was the assembly of the machine, not that there was really a lot to do there, mainly just lift it out of the box. I have a metal work table, its about 57" long and 32" deep, don't ask where those dimensions came from, the table came off of the production floor for a company I used to work for and these were custom made. Anyway, i wanted to make sure the machine was going to be placed in a good spot, since the table is pulling double duty with my drill press, I wanted to make sure the location was going to be workable before I bolted it down to the table.
I did manage to get it bolted down last night, even found a scrap piece of wood to play with. Part of Monday night was playing with the gouges and getting them sharpened.
After I loaded my scrap into the machine, flipped the switch on, man-o-man is this thing ever whisper quiet!!!!
