Facts Vs. Naysayers

Every once in a while I run into some comment online where someone who does not own a Grizzly lathe trashes them....this seems to happen with some regularity. The newer Grizzly lathes have come into their own with features that are state of the art with Asian lathes across the board. Even though the G0766 was manufactured with metric dimensions on the banjo hole and spindle boss, those two mods are so easy to do, and performance-wise, it can hold its own with Powermatic, Jet, Laguna, etc. That is fact! It is THE VALUE in a large lathe on the market today!
Point - the experiences of owners validate the performance claims by us, and the naysayers will have to take a chill pill, because the Grizzly lineup of large VFD lathes are the real deal!
I just get tired of negative talk from know-it-all's who don't own or have never turned on one!

The new G0800 is manufactured by Harvey Industries Co, which also makes the clone of it, the T-60 Turbo lathe and also the Powermatic 3520b. Same features with the cage, etc, only upgraded ergonmics, and a tailstock swing away. The G0766 is made by the Burt Group, but there are parts on the PM, Jet, Laguna and Grizzly that are all the same. The manufacturing relationships are hard to deny, and the performance of the Grizzly large lathes are validated by us owners every time we turn on them!

I have had my G0800 for about 8 months now and I am very happy with it. my turning club has several Jet lathes a PM3520B and a large One way and I think my Grizzly is as good as any of them. That said I really don't care what other people think of my tool choices.

I have had my G0766 for 18 months, now, and never have I had as much fun or just sheer pleasure with a machine. Granted, this is my first dedicated lathe, but I've turned on Delta MIDI, Jet Mini, and PM 3520B. The Grizzly G0766 is a joy to work with. My only complaints are these: I have too little time to turn; and I will need to make a remote switch enclosure, and, I'd like to have a power outlet onboard for accessories. These are minor issues, and I shall overcome them.

I've had my G0766 for a couple of years now and couldn't be happier with it. I would buy it again and I would reccommend it to a friend.

    I like mine too.

Like Mark wants to do, I already added a 120 vac accessory quad outlet. I used some of the metric tapped holes in the legs to bolt the steel box.

I would also like to add a remote box to (more safely) adjust the speed and have a shut-off from the back side of the lathe. Perhaps in the future....

My second potentiometer occasionally gets a little "noisy" - - that is, the speed hunts or varies a bit. But when I wiggle it (like we all have done with a table radio volume control) it settles down. I have a replacement pot but haven't bothered to replace it yet.

I picked up a set of the newer (shorter) legs. They put the lathe at a more comfortable height for me, a 5'10" person.

Dollar-for-dollar, the G0766 provides a lot of value for the money. Perhaps the best "value proposition" for a lathe with its specs. It is a good fit for the serious hobbyist.

Brice: How much were the shorter legs? I may want to do that as I am also 5'10", and having a platform to stand on scares me. - OOPS - I've fallen and can't get up.
