So I just received my G0766 and put it together yesterday. is there anything I should do before using it. I made sure everything was secure, decreased it, and waxed the bed ways already. Anything else?

    Thank you,
    Kyle

make sure it is level front to back side to side and corner to corner that way the centers will line up. then put a big piece of wood on it an have fun!

Do you have a scroll chuck for it yet? If the adapter does not thread all the way back to the shoulder of the spindle, I would take a flat file and run the rpm's at about 500-600, and take a smidgen off so that my chuck seated all the way back to the shoulder.....the adapter and the spindle shoulder should touch and this will help chucks run true. Some adapters are 1.250 mm, and the spindle boss [register is 1.260" .....about 8-10 thousandth's over. The G0766 has some metric dimensions because it is sold in Europe under another label. The banjo hole is 25mm, and most of us owners drill it out to 1 inch to accept aftermarket rests with a 1" post. Both are very easy modifications.

Congrats on the new lathe. As already stated, level her up in all directions and you should be ready to go. It's a great lathe and lots of fun to use. Enjoy.

In addition to Roger's sage advice, make sure that you lock the headstock in place (Don't ask me how I learned this).

Also, consider putting a shelf across the legs and weigh it down with something heavy like sand or concrete.

When you level the lathe, make sure that all four adjusters are touching the floor with about equal pressure. I stuck some rubber pads under my adjusters and it seemed to reduce vibration.

Brice: I had a couple of instances where the headstock actually came loose, and I was getting weird vibrations. Once I figured it out, now I check the lock lever every time I turn.

Mark, I had a wierd "knocking" sound and some vibration. Sounded like a classic "rod knock" but I knew that it wasn't. Thought I had a bad bearing. Then I realized that the headstock wasn't tightened. In my case, I'm pretty sure that it was an "operator induced" problem.

    Thanks everyone for responding.

Oddly enough i haven't had to file anything down for things to seat correctly. I have leveled it in it's new spot and turned a few things on it this week. Largest being I roughed out a 15 inch hickory bowl, that would have never been possible with my old Delta 1460 Lathe.
