Removing point from live center

I have a copy of the Grizzly G 0462 marketed in Mexico and want to remove the point from the tailstock live center to hold a 1/2" dowel. On the Jet lathe I used before, all I had to do was tap the point out with a rod through hollow Morse taper. On this live center there's a set screw. I loosened the set screw and tried to tap out the point from behind but it wouldn't budge. Does anyone know if the point will come out if I pound on it hard enough?

Kim.........not all live centers will allow the point to come out of them.......I have three that do come out and two that do not come out.........meaning they are machined together without a separate piece for the center point. Usually if it does come out, there is a screw on the side of the center that you loosen up, and them tap out with a punch or something that will fit into the taper end of the unit. You might have to purchase another center ......Grizzly does have them I think, but CSUSA and Packard do carry them.
