Looking For The Floor To Spindle CenterLine Height For The G766 With The Shorter Legs

Hi Everyone, my name is Dom Garafalo.

I've been a member of Sawmill Creek for some time but I'm thinking seriously about upgrading my Jet 1221vs lathe to one of the larger Grizzly models in the next 3-6 months. I like either the G0733 or the G0766. I was initially attracted to the 733 because of the floor to spindle height being a better fit to my 5'7" height. Though the G0766 seems like a better value especially with a 3 HP motor.

However, I recall some mention that Grizzly has redesigned shorter legs for the 766 but for the life of me I can't find the threads
with that information so I thought it made sense to join this group and ask the folks who know the most about the Grizzly machines. I even called Grizzly customer service this morning to ask them but they knew there was a second generation of legs for the 766 but did not have the new specs.

Does anyone here know the floor to spindle center line height with the new shorter legs?

    Thank you

I have the shorter legs. I measured my lathe and it came to 46-3/8". That measurement depends on position of the adjustable feet. My "feet" are perhaps cranked up perhaps 1/2" on the spindle end. So 46" is a good number. If you got rid of the original feet and replaced them with shims or something, you could probably take an inch or more off of that.

It looks like the on-line specs (47-13/16") are for the original (taller) version lathe and are therefore incorrect.

I am around 5'-9" and I like the shorter legs. My lathe originally came with the taller legs and I got a set of the shorter ones. I haven't had any upper back spasms since I installed the shorter legs.

I have a pair of the taller legs that I am not using. If someone in the Southern Calif. area who is taller and would want taller legs, please PM me. Since I don't believe that they are making the taller legs, they are a bit of a collector's item. ha ha...
