    Your Best Nifty Shop Tip?

    Thread Starter: Russell Neyman

It's the small things that often make the biggest difference. I've found that the crafty veterans seem to know a little trick here or there that make turning better, safer, faster, or easier. So I'm throwing out a challenge: give us your best "nifty" and when this thread is done, it will make a...

Chinese laser purchase/Shenui/Laserworks tips and tricks thread

    Thread Starter: Rodne Gold

Considering a lot of us are going or have gone that direction , I thought it a good idea to combine our knowledge pool in one thread. So I have started one. Those of you that have already posted to other threads can perhaps repeat and consolidate the posts here or at least point to other posts on...

Is CBN simply worth the extra cost?

    Thread Starter: Matt Mackinnon

I knew from the start that getting into woodworking was going to be a very expensive hobby. And even more so when I took up turning. I recently bought a whole lathe setup with a wolverine jig and grinding wheel. The fellow who I bought it from had 2 oneway blue 8" grinding wheels in 54 and 120...

cyclone selection-- Onieda, Grizzly, or Penn State

    Thread Starter: Don Jeansonne

I have come the conclusion that I need to upgrade to a cyclone with 3hp min size. I am looking at Onieda V3000, Grizzly G0441, and Penn State 3.5hp. The cost differences are not that mush with Penn State being lowest. I would like to know people's opinions about the pros & cons of these suppliers....

Laser Engraving True 8bit Shades of Grey

    Thread Starter: Jeff Woodcock

Hi everyone, I'm new here and this is my first thread and post on this forum. I would like to introduce to everyone a new process me and my son developed to laser engrave true 8bit shades of grey using a 445nm laser diode. There is no dithering a image first, no pulsing or overlapping dots to...

    Buy versus build?

    Thread Starter: Jamie Buxton

Because we're builders, we can make stuff for our shops. We also have manufacturers which are happy to sell us similar stuff. For instance, you can make your own sawhorses, or you can buy them. You can make a workbench, or you can buy one. You can make your own jigs (for instance a shelf-pin...

About 5-6 months ago I wanted to turn a piece of Cholla, but there wasn't any solid wood to center on to. It took me about 30 minutes to come up with what I call a "Chuck Plate".

Any tips on removing a riciculously glued rubber tire from lower BS wheel?

If it's contact cement, use wax & grease remover, you can get it at automotive finish stores. It's used to remove wax, grease, tar, glue, oil etc.
