    After experiments, I like a bench height at my belt line. Higher, and I'm straining to plane comfortably.

    Lower and I must bend closer to see fine fork (dovetails, tenons, etc).

    It's easy enough to raise workpieces, difficult to lower bench height.

    Have a browse if Jin Tolpin's "The New Traditional Woodworker". It takes a reasoned approach to (judicious) use if power tools.

    Some tasks (such as morticing by hand) wreck my elbow and require a power tool crutch in my shop.

    Bright task lighting will improve your performance on a bench of any height.
