Getting started and purchasing lumber. Congratulations on setting out to make your own furniture. I recommend your local Craigslist for starting stash. Search 'lumber' 'hardwood' or a combination including descriptions.

Otherwise, a stash of 'someday' lumber will expand to fill your basement.
