As far as woodworking goes, it came from the slippery slope of home ownership. After buying a house with 40 acres of mature Vermont hardwoods I quickly grew tired of just making firewood. I only use 1-2 cords per year, but was making around 12 simply with storm damage. Been donating the extra firewood. In the process of woodlot management some excellent lumber-quality trees were needing to be felled. So, I got a lumber mill. Then the garage stopped being for cars and I continue to expand my woodworking capabilities daily.
