    Dave,

John Keeton PM'd me that you were looking for a Dowel Max. I listed one for sale on the for sale board. $250 shipped. It comes with all items from the vendor. I am selling only because I need to buy a welder for some upcoming projects.

I used Hard Maple Plywood bought from a reliable vendor (not Chinese ply) and then bought some "glue on" Maple veneer strips from Menards that was pre-glued and applied with an iron. It was simple to apply the strips. I bought a trimmer that cut both sides and then a chisel to peel the edge. This project really made good use of the space and my sons are glad they helped make them.

Did you use solid wood or veneer plywood? We kind of have a wrap around closet with that wire hanging stuff, but would like to add some drawers and shelves to allow better use of the closet.

Do you happen to have plans or anything for the closet organizers you built? I am looking to do something very similar. Thanks.

    Dave,

Just thought I'd drop you a line and tell you that your shop was an inspiration to me. Like you, I live in Michigan. I work in my basement and I always wished I had better lighting, more space, better organization, etc. I saw your shop in the Fine Woodworking Annual and was inspired to do something about it. I've since installed new florescent lights, a better floor system (used to be very uneven concrete) and focused on my storage more.

Just wanted to say thanks for that. What part of Michigan are you from?

Birthday Waterfall Bubinga - Entry Table # 4

by Dave Verstraete on 03-22-2009 at 2:45 PM
I began today by cutting the walnut into manageable pieces. I milled the walnut flat and square.
I am going to use a piece with sapwood in it for the inside shelf. I like the look of it after finishing.
I glued them with the Bessey clamps and set them aside for an hour.

Birthday Waterfall Bubinga - Entry Table # 3

by Dave Verstraete on 03-21-2009 at 8:02 PM
I decided to make a doweling jig at work to reinforce the mitered corners of the project. After some testing on some plywood, I felt ready to attempt the mitered edge of bubinga. Everything came out OK. I learned that a brad point bit does not work well with this type of jig.

Birthday Waterfall Bubinga - Entry Table # 1

by Dave Verstraete on 03-15-2009 at 10:44 AM
Using a plywood board for a straight edge, I route with a pattern bit for a good edge on the top. I take small cuts at a time until the edge "cleans up".

Using the table saw, I cut the 45 degree angles where the top and side joins. I had to use a piece of plywood clamped to the board because I couldn't use the live edge as a reference against the fence.

Birthday Waterfall Bubinga - The First Cuts

by Dave Verstraete on 03-14-2009 at 6:35 AM
After several hesitations, Jake and I began cutting up the Bubinga. The Couch/Entry Hall Table will be the first project. I intend to submit it in a local furniture design/build contest at a local store. I will use a jigsaw to cut out the pieces needed for the table and leave the rest for later. I already know where the pieces for the coffee table will come from (the other board's live edge)
