  1. Good to hear from you Jon,
What Im doing right now is trying to come up with a bench that is handy, but is something I can leave on the jobs and not worry about it... Ive been building benches on every single job and Im getting tired of it (you probably saw my sorry excuse for a bench on that old italianette in Los Altos).
Basically what ive done so far is to purchase two 6 x 14 douglass fir beams that are eight feet tall. they are acclimitzing right now in my garage. when they are a little more stable Ill start to get them relativley flat and then install 3-5 vises on it; I want it useable on all sides since my and the help are always using it at the same times. I might decide to put a shallow tray in the middle between the two beams as we always have vacumes so cleaning is no issue.
I also am going to groove out the bottom of the tables so that they will have slots to sit on sawhorses and for festool mft tables (which are always on the job sites).

Hey Joseph, just saw your post on the tail vise. Interested in hearing what you're doing. My personal preference would be for a wagon vise, but that's just me - I don't have dogs along the front edge of my current bench, but that may change at some point!

What I do really like is the patternmaker's style vise for the face vise. All depends on what you're working on.

I'd be happy to tell you my experiences, just give me a call or whatever. (650-799-9973)

    Hope you're doing well!

    Jon
