About Lee Niemiec
Biography:
B. A. History (SouthernIllinois University - C'dale) Studied Medieval History primarily social and technological aspects with some focus on the early woodworking guilds of England. An important professor/teacher was an expert in Medieval Master Masons.

Medieval history majors have few employment opportunities. At the recommendation of a mentor who suggested I learn a trade, I started working in what has become one of the finest refinishing businesses in Chicago. Being partially color deficient, I became more involved with woodworking, repair and joinery.

Subsequently, obtained a Master of Science degree in Wood Science and Utilization at Penn State, went to work for Masonite at their R&D Center, started a business (custom furniture and woodworking, repair and refinishing), came to Oregon to work at the Forest Products Department at Oregon State University (departmental extension, industry continuing education and research). More self-employment and now semi-retired, living sustainably on 21 acres of wetland, Oregon ash wetland forest, steep sloped mixed hardwood-conifer forest and with a small amount of oak savannah (one tree at least 260 years old).

I work primarily with local hardwoods (mostly Bigleaf maple and Oregon white oak).
