Lidded/finial HF walnut
This Walnut HF is 7X5 and finished with minwax wipe on gloss poly. The lid/finial is ebonised walnut using the rusty steel wool and vinegar method. I don't turn finials often and am afraid that is a bit obvious from this one. Something is wrong with it. Could be a bit to heavy and stubby or not enough"round" to the lower body? Suggestions appreciated...Bill..

A wonderful work
The finish, and the HF are absolutely beautiful. The only suggestion I can make for the finial is the shaft between the lower bead and the upper bead seams a little heavy, I would try the same design but with a thinner shaft.
Cheers, E

Finial looks fine, not stubby or heavy. I think it fits.
-
I agree, the finial works well. The whole things works well. Nicely done.
-
I can't think of anything I'd change on the finial. Great job on form and finish. Superb piece!!

William this piece is gorgeous. I love it. The form color and finial. Someday I hope to do work of this caliber.

Beautiful finish and form, Bill. I think the finial is just fine the way it is.

Bill,
I am no expert but my first impressions were the following:

Love the hollow form and can not imagine anything that would improve it!
Very nice work! Great job on the finish!

HF looks absolutely great. Finish is beautiful. I agree with all points that Steve suggested.

Ditto what Steve said. And/but the very bottom edge of the piece appears to be rather sharp. If it were rounded a bit, it would give the piece some "lift" and make it virtually perfect. Love your finish work.

You know, I keep coming back to this post for another look at your work. It's really wonderful, the proportions, the finish, the finial, - and then it hit me - the photography! You've done an outstanding job throughout. Congratulations.
Cheers, E
