Simple boxes from scraps
These "Treasure Boxes" are made from scrap, left over from larger projects. The left one is made of walnut and quilted maple veneer. The right one is frame-and-panel construction. The frames are bloodwood and the panels are quilted maple veneer. Both boxes are 15"w x 9"d x 6"h. The feet are recessed so that the box appears to float. The finish is General Finishes Polyacrylic, which does not darken the bloodwood as much as oil-based finish. The veneer is from Veneersupplies.com; the solid wood is from my local Woodcraft; the hardware is from LeeValley.com. Please comment.

Beautiful boxes. A real keepsake for someone.

You can’t see me right now but my jaw just dropped! That is totally cool. It is a beauty.

These are very nice. I particularly like the frame and panel box - the maple is dazzling.

You had some nice scraps and really got the best from them.

Beautiful boxes John. Thank you for giving me a nudge as I have a scrap pile that needs taming and Christmas looms on the horizon.

Nice work, both here and with the tissue box covers you posted. It must be time to create some more scrap wood to work with!

You can be very proud of them. Great work

Nice work. I particularly like the walnut box - simple and elegant. I'm frustrated for you (though you may not share the frustration ) for the paucity of good hardware out there. The clasps on the walnut box just don't do it justice. Sorry for being negative. I really do think those are fine samples of craftsmanship and a lovely use of what many others would consider kindling. Nicely done.

Love the figured maple, wish I had a few scraps like that. Beautiful boxes.
