HF #2 Attempt...

Good Day to the Turners of the Creek.
Attempt #2 at a HF.
Everything going as planned. Nice thin wall with a consistent thickness...
Half way to getting to the bottom.

Should of left well enough alone. And should learn to pay more attention to the laser....

Upside is if I can stop going through the bottom corner I will be able to get a HF with some pretty thin walls...
And I was able to finish the salt shaker for my son in law...

Well - it was sure looking good there for a while!!!

Nothing says that your HF has to be paper thin! Try to turn one with a consistent 3/16" thickness. It will be very lightweight when you pick it up and you will have something to show off!

Nice looking salt shaker! Your SIL will love it!

Gary, there is an unfortunate difference between woodturning and flatwork when it comes to screwups. For the most part, when building a piece of furniture, and bad cut means cutting another board. In woodturning, it often means starting over!!:eek::(

You really did have a nice piece going there, and I think the next one will be great! Probably a good plan to have a diversion, and the shaker is really very nice - beautiful wood.

Hey Gary, you could re-attach the 2 halfs with wire and call it art;). I saw a friend of mine the other day for some turning lessons on HF's. After seeing his work, most were 1/4" thick. I asked him why they weren't paper thin..."thin wall turning is only done to impress other turners" was his response:eek:. I have 2 on the chuck right now that will be 1/4" thick each...mainly because I want to see 'em on the shelf...not in the burn box:o That's a great looking mill by the way!!

Gary, great job. Go at it again, your shape and form look good. I've seen that silver tip come out the side also.:eek: But it's a lesson each time I make a mistake. Can't wait to see the next one.

"it" happens. I have the mini and it's easy to go on autopilot. Turn and learn, eh?

Bummer Gary. I did that three times trying to get the walls thin. I finally said enough was enough. I never go thinner than 3/16".
