This is the bowl I turned from the Red Elm that I got from Eric Raasch in the Dirty Santa wood exchange. This was a beautiful piece of wood and turned like butter. It's 8" x 3.25" and finished with Deft semi-gloss.
Thanks Erin!

Wow! That did turn out nicely. Makes me want to run out to the shop and start turning some of the blanks I have left. I really like red elm for its grain, and you've more than done it justice. Very nice work!

nice!!!! I want to make a bowl soon and I was wondering the procedure you do. Do you first shape the inside, then the outside, and then flip it around in the chuck and finish the bottom?? or other way around??
I usually mount them on the woodworm screw that comes with a talon chuck or a face plate and turn the bottom and a tenon first. Then I turn it around and hold it with the tenon in the chuck jaws and turn the inside. Then I use a compression chuck (donut) to turn off the tenon and finish the bottom.Quote:

This bowl shows the beautiful grain that Red Elm has... Nice job Curt! I've found that green (Slippery Elm) Red Elm holds a ton of water and when turned very thin warps fast.
Good job Curt
Fantastic Job and beautiful wood. This makes all the confusion well worth while. Curt you did the event proud!
I like it too! Well done.
Very nice, Curt. Very nice indeed.
