SCMS Question

I just purchased my first SCMS. After researching them for a while I decided on the new Makita 10" slider. I was setting up the saw for the first time (e.g. making sure that the saw and fence was 90 degrees, that the blade was 90 degrees to the table, that the miter and bevel set points were correct, etc.). One thing I noticed over is that when I plunge cut at on the same board at the extremes of the slider that the two cuts do not match up "exactly". There is a small lip left. I would guess it is no more than about a 1/32". Is this really a difference or is this what should be expected for a slider at the extremes? I have seen a couple of postings that say the two cuts should be in nearly dead alignment. Thanks for any help.

I'll be watching this as I have yet to find a slider where the head doesn't deviate from a changing grip or arm motion. I would test again being very careful that you are not influencing the blade path.

You don't want to get frustrated trying to make the saw compensate for technique. I don't mean this as "you're doing it wrong" :), I just mean to point out a possible correction for what you are seeing.

And any side pressure is going to magnify when it is extended. Jim.
