small spalted hard maple
Here's a whimsical little piece that I turned from spalted hard maple. This is from a selection of wood that I recieved from Jeff Nicol in a little wood exchange(Thanks Jeff!). It's about 4 inches tall and 2 inches wide at the most. I looks alot like a flower to me. My wife and child think it looks like a waffle cone.

Either way, it's beautiful wood and greatly appreciated.
Comments and critiques appreciated.

Nice work David! Sort of a mini-vase! I can see the waffle cone... but really like the wood! Nice form and finish!

Wow! David, that is elegant. Just an outstanding piece. Great finish job too.

that wood is just so pretty, love it.

Very cool! It looks bigger than the description. You did a great job of making use of a small piece of great wood.
-
Very nice! How did you sand the inside?

Great little vase!
David, I am glad you were able to get some use out of all the stuff I sent you! I have a piece of the Bois d' arc that I got from you just waiting for me to turn! I love the spalting in the maple also, the chunk of wood that it came from was big and I have turned many things from it! I still think I have some more left.
Great shape and finish,
Jeff

Thanks to all for the kind comments...
Dan, I sanded on the lathe for the most part with the speed way down. Finished with 400 grit(or maybe 600), steel wool, and a little knuckle skin
