When I lived in NYC, over 26 years ago, "real" New Yorkers liked to take the Staten Island Ferry from the Battery to Staten Island and back. Good view of the harbor and the financial district skyline, and not much money. Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge (on the way to the Transit Museum) was another native New Yorker thing to do. And, while you're over in downtown Brooklyn, check out the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, and consider a meal at Junior's (corner of DeKalb and Flatbush)
