Thanks for the clarification. I knew that; I really meant 'water-soluble-solvent-based.' ;)
You should really point out the GF (not Flexner) that their data sheet is wrong. Looks like they cut and pasted the OIL STAIN data sheet into the ArmRSeal sheet. That's definitely an error.
Hello,
The MSDS is only concerned with the safety aspect of the material as far as use, handling and storage.
It's not a definative "list of ingrediants".
You can glean some small clues from the sheets, but don't base a conclusion that if it's not listed, it isn't in there, on the MSDS alone.
They (MSDS) sheets are published so employees know the safety aspects of the material, employers know how to properly store the materials and emergency responders (fire/medical, etc) know what they are dealing with in an emergency situation.
That's quite true, though some companies at least combine some other required disclosures into their MSDS forms. They also include the ingredient lists required under the New Jersey right to know provisions. Would that the Fed's adopt such a requirement more widely. So much of what is, and in particular, what isn't on MSDS disclosures is more about marketing than about safety. Secrets are "kept" ingredients are "Proprietary" so potential users can maintain fictions that particular products are really different from similar products.
That has limitations too however. I'm still not convinced that all urakyd resin varnishes aroung linseed oil are identical ,as an example, and clearly the differences in the ingredients lists that make them different aren't likely to be desirable to be disclosed.
