This one measures 9x12 and the woods are hard maple and African Mahogany. Each layer is 1/4'' thick. Thanks for looking.

very nice.
Ya know, looking at a segmented piece is one thing .... knowing what it takes to MAKE one is a whole new appreciation. I am new to the turning world, and like to try a bit of everything, I am lining up my first segmented turning right now ... it will be small, I promise!
Wow, that is beautiful. You have the patience of a saint. My ADD will probably never let me do segmented work.
Like a small waisted woman, pretty work Mike, as usual I should add ;-))
Beautiful vase Mike! Great colors and form! I really like how you varied the actual length of the segments depending on where they were used in the form! Adds an entirely new dimension to the segmented piece!
Good to have you back posting again! It's been awhile and I've missed your work!
That's beautiful! I absolutely love the form.
Strikingly beautiful, artfully done, and a great form. Exquisite work!
Very nice! I love the form and you did a great job lining everything up. Great color combo, too!
This looks great, Mike - both the design of the segments and the shape/form of the piece.
Mike, that's a remarkable production. Just breathtaking.....
Mike, that is a fantastic job - near perfect alignment! I am in awe you are able to make these things work out the way you do. Good to see you post again! KY boy does good.
Beautiful work. I admire the dedication required to make this.
Mike that is a wonderful piece, I really like the shape and colors. Thanks for showing.
Your brickwork is quite accurate and the colors are very nice. Good contrast. I look forward to seeing more in the future
Mke that is one beautiful piece. The wood color, form and finish look great.
Mike, nice variation on the more common method of creating a spiral. What everyone else said.
Beautiful work in all regards. I can't remember another one you have posted that was more impressive, and I remember some impressive ones! A a beginner and someone who has never tried segmenting. Is a shape like this turned smooth inside all the way to the bottom? I have created a couple shapes on the outside where I couldn't complete the inside. Second question since I'm asking things, do you use a laser hollowing system? After all that work getting it together, I would be afraid to try even with one. Thanks for posting!
Mike,
I like it, nice form!
Mike,
Your work is always impeccable. This piece is inspiring, as I am sure are your sermons. Well Done!!
I think it's great, and I cannot imagine all the planning that goes into that, down to the smaller pieces in the neck. Very well done, nice contrast and finish.

Mike, That's really nice.
I love the spiral effect.
That's a lot of joints, and I can't find a bad one. Like Keeton said, "near perfect alignment too."
Very well done.
Jim , I done this one in three stages so there was no deep hollowing. The bottom was hollowed while it was still a bowl shape as well as the second section. They were also finished at that point and then glued together using the lathe as a clamp. Then the top section was shaped and hollowed in the same way and glued together in the same way. When you get that far away you you about have to have a steady rest. I don't have one so I had to cobble one together in order to complete this one but I will build a good one for the next time.
A really nice piece. That's my favorite vase shape, but I never thought about attempting it as a segmented turning.
Thanks for all the comments. And Ken I hope you are right.
Incredible Mike!
Mike,
This by far your best segmented item that you have posted here. What a beauty it is.
Mike
Good to see you back Mike!!! What a way to make an entrance!!
Mike, I bet you're still seeing those segments spinning! Looks great, I bet the planning was a challenge.
Mike, I have been a fan of yours for quite some time and this just makes me appreciate you and your creations more. Wonderful work!!:)
