Magnolia Bowl
This piece of magnolia was given to me by a fellow woodturner, and it came from a plantation near Quitman, GA. The bowl measures 19.34 in wide X 8 in. tall. I inlayed the lip of it with malachite, red coral, flourite, and brass. My objective was to give the traditionally bland magnolina a holiday festive look. The challenge for me was to keep the line of the bowl in tune with a fairly good design which would be pleasing with such a large piece. I used the tung oil mixture, and buffed. Your comments as always are welcomed.

I like the inlay alot, but I don't think there would have been anything bland about it without the inlay.

That bowl looks great! I think I will have to take my chainsaw with me to see family in the Mobile, AL soon and harvest some of the Katrina pecan tree victims...

That is a beautiful bowl and a great idea about the holiday rim trim. Thanks for sharing that idea.

A lovely looking bowl for sure, the inlace (coloring) certainly suggests that it would be appropriate at Christmas time. I bet this bowl would sell in no time at a Christmas Craft Fair. I have never done any inlace work perhaps I just may give it a try this winter, I will know doubt want to pick you brain Glenn.
