I’m new to milling and air-drying. I (chainsaw) milled a bunch of soft maple (Norway maple) recently and looks like I have some mold growing on the end grain. Ends were sealed with green wood sealer. This hasn’t happened to the cherry or walnut I’ve milled over the last few years. Should I be worried about this?
I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as you've got good air flow.
Don't sweat it.
It has happened to every batch I've had milled -- walnut, maple, ash, and elm (yes, elm -- elm that was very wet). But the wood all dried beautifully; the mold was only on the surface and on the ends. It cropped up in the first few weeks of drying, and the spotting remained, but never created a problem.
