Add this to the list of ridiculous statements. It's a complete over generalization on both sides. Can't we all just get along. :D

Not to be picky, but I think you are referring to CBN wheels. Just wanted to point this out in case someone wants to do a search for them.

My recommendation would be to buy one of the EOS cases and make a thin walled shell to cover each half.

I didn't say a chisel was a plane. A plane is a jig to hold a blade (chisel) to easily flatten a board. It makes the job of flattening a board much easier than doing it with just the blade.

    It's...

Isn't a handplane a jig to hold a chisel? If so, why is it ok to use those and not dovetail guides. You could definitely get more skill by flattening a board with a chisel than with a plane.

The best help for me was using tools that can do the job. I just got beat up by the jarring of the tool when I first started hollowing. That was with hand held tools. I made myself a captive...

    They...

I've got the DVR XP and I think it's an amazing lathe. I've had mine for 7 years now and never had a problem. I'm not a big fan of changing belts to change speeds so the dvr motor is perfect for me.
