My favorite finish for cherry is to mix equal parts varnish, BLO, and mineral spirits. Not really a secret sauce, it's basically just making your own wiping oil/varnish. Sand cherry to 220 and flood...
Louis is a great guy.
He spent a generous amount of time on the phone with me helping determine what blade would be ideal for my Yates bandsaw. No sales pressure, just a genuine concern for...
I live in Illinois and felt a slight vacuum a few days ago.
Now I know where the suck was coming from.
Crazy gloat.
Thanks Keith, and any others, responsible for the repair.
Thank you Brad for taking the time to bring this to mod's attention when I couldn't log on.
This is a great community, I really...
Just as a tip for anyone following the link Terry posted...
That exact table can be purchased at Farm & Fleet for around $150. I actually have that table and it works well for moving stock around...
OK, OK, OK.
The next pictures I post of my shop will have some dust somewhere....
Just sent a link of this thread to my wife.
That way she will believe me when I tell her a fellow woodworker got a table saw for his birthday.
NICE!
I agree with you Mark Bolton, on the lock idea.
If I set the table at max height, it will settle about 1/4" every 24 hours.
Not a big deal now, but as the hydraulic jack (bleed valve?) wears...
I think my metal guy actually used a motorcycle lift table for inspiration...
As to an earlier question: The lift is pretty smooth going up, with just a little vibration from the air pulses....
Thanks for all the compliments. I'll be sure to pass them along to the fabricator.
My buddy said retail for the lift table would be about $800. He made me promise not to mention what my "friend...
Hi guys!
Thought I'd share a couple pics of my new baby.
I'm so excited. It's always been a thorn in my side to have to work at the same elevation for every project. I've seen so many...
Hi guys,
I certainly don't mean to hijack this thread or steer anyone away from Upsome, I just wanted to let you know of another supplier in the general area of southern WI. A couple hours south...
Next time you're in Mount Carroll (wait...noone comes to Mount Carroll on purpose :)) stop by my shop and give a 19" Grizzly a try!

Let me start by saying that I am not an Electrical Engineer or an expert on 3 phase, I can only share my experience.
I have a 1932 Yates-American bandsaw with a 3HP, 3PH motor. I called on the...
Dale,
Thanks for the link! Every time I see George Nakashima's work - I soon after walk to my wood storage room, stare at slabs, and dream of future projects.

You might try looking on the used market as well. I know it's a bit of a gloat, but I bought a five year old SUPERMAX 37 inch double drum for $1300 last winter. I would concur that a drum sander can...
Since you said "for the money", I'd have to throw in the Woodslicer from Highland Woodworking. Reasonable price with very good results.
Thanks everybody for the kind words and advice. SMC is quite a place - in less than 12 hours I've been given valuable information about shipping, restoration, wiring, and even copies of Yates...
Hello all,
I have never done one of these "gloat" things, but I thought my latest tool aquisition might be deserving.
I heard a rumor that the owner of a local excavating company had a...
When I read the title of this thread, I almost cringed. I could see it in my mind before reading on: 1/2 saying "it's crap!" and 1/2 saying "it's wonderful" It's possible if you started a thread...
Congratulations and great work! I've got my first on the way this fall and have similar projects to complete. Thanks for the pics and motivations!

Add another vote for the SC. My first project with their mortiser was a QSWO mission-style library desk with 64 mortise & tenon joints. The stock bits performed very well on that project and...
I have to agree with Dale - remove the bark. You may find a way to finish it, but you will never be able to insure the natural bond of the bark to the flitch edge. Besides, if you carefully remove...
I hope I'm not too silly for saying this, but I always use the flex of my long Bessey's as a "gauge". I apply pressure with the clamp until it begins to bow, then I back off slightly so the clamp is...
