I took this on a couple of years back as well and used poplar for the rails/stiles and basswood for the slats. I think it was well worth the effort. i'd echo the other comments and add a few things...
here you go...https://www.leighjigs.com/support.php
Sorry that you had to take the hit, but thanks for flagging this land mine
If you can please post a photo or describe how the joints failed. I don't doubt what you've seen, but this thing is pretty bulletproof. Did the joints you saw fail use undersized dominos or perhaps...
Aside from checking the setup - mine were dead on - i'd advise not trying to go too fast when mortising, especially with the 500 as it will jump a bit sideways on the face. It's very easy to setup...
i suspect the issue Prashun was addressing in the finer grit was blotching. Lots of techniques, but i personally prefer sanding to 220, washcoat of shellac followed by topcoat varnish or lacquer...
Not sure where you're located, but happy to help with the miters and dominos if you're anywhere near DC
I'm sure the Hammer, Felder or minimax would be worthwhile - i've got Felder, but would probably have been happy with minimax as well. I have the saw/shaper and jointer/planer split. I prefer that...
Yes, i've used half-blind dovetails that way -- scrolled through too quickly and missed the subsequent reference in his desire for a solid carcass.
If it's just the exterior look, i'd still...
i suppose you could do this in a number of ways, but if you use a solid panel, but seems to me the bigger question would be, "why?" You're reintroducing the wood movement issues that the frame and...
I'm for letting time do the work to darken cherry, if you do it artificially and get it where you want it now, it will be darker in a year. The biggest drawback to sticking it in the sun is uneven...
PM me an email address and i'll shoot you the pdf
I have an RO90, RO150, and ETS150 among others. I had thought the rotex wouldn't really work in setting up for finishing, but after watching this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZZyypf-Qqk...
I spent
- Saturday hunting down enough cherry to build a bed i've been contemplating for my daughter (10/4-16/4 seems tough to find right now);
- Sunday building jigs and laying out the legs; ...
Andy -- Ah, I get it. I've got a saw/shaper combo and there is a small port there for shaper use. I keep it capped unless i'm using the shaper and then just switch over the hose from the guard.

That's an odd spot, Felder (and I thought Hammer) dust ports are on the right side of the cabinet. Dropping the ducting in vertically is a snap.
You could combine Mike's two ideas into one, put a thread on the end of the rods and run them through a rubber grommet with a nut and washer on the back of the stand, that would hold and stay fitted...
I would think the best way is using a laser - probably not worth the additional investment you're looking for tho
Just a thought, but i would consider putting in an interior box attached to the aprons, otherwise you'll have gaps in dealing with the inside corners of the legs. You could rabbit in a plywood...
Don't know if you've been to the store yet, but you may want to look at the MRC23EVSK Bosch kit. I've been thinking of adding this router to the batch because of the LED light, the added...
Not to be contrarian, but i think the whole uncut/downcut thing is relative to the surface of the material, not the orientation of the router.
i have the 1400, a couple of biog/small porter cables and a bosch. The Festool is easily the best, but i really like that all of the accessories (edge guides, tracks, stops, etc) - and the dust...
Doh!
Attention to detail. I apparently just made two left arms for a chair again.
Thanks,
Lou
Out of your current list, i'd take the MM1st, Felder 2nd. I have an agazzani B24, but I would be perfectly happy with the MM.
