I see I'm late to the party (as usual) but in my shop, stuff like that on a board are considered defects, not figure. I typically avoid the rustic style stuff though, so that's why.
Looking forward...

For sale is a new in box set of Japanese hand forged bench chisels. Made for Jindaiko Honpo most likely by blacksmith Nakano-san in the traditional fashion of forge welding plain high carbon steel to...
Right you are lol
474023 474024474026474027474028474029474030474031Ever since I decided to make my woodworking hobby a business & open a custom cabinet shop, I don’t have time for turning anymore. This lathe has sat...
The real test is whether or not the machine can accurately produce flat faced stock & true straight edges for glue joints. Have you run any wood across it yet? The proof - as they say - is in the...
Hey guys! So I know this is a 9 month old dead thread that I'm breathing new life into here, but the question fits well. I have a reface job coming up that has way more onsite finishing than what I...
Thanks anyway Wes. I'll keep it under my hat until next time.
As others have said, get the spherical washers. They are cheap & worked wonders even on my cheapo Delta variable speed grinder. My CBN's wobbled terribly without them, once I put the spherical...
Thanks Dave.
The sapele darkened considerably with the application of the "natural" colored Cetol D&W sealer which actually had an amber tint to it (reminded me a lot of the color of amber...
Thanks Ray
Thanks Tom. Leather faces for the Emmert are on my to-do list.
Thanks guys. It was a fun project. A bit stressful at times due to all the different concentric radii that had to line up nicely, but i enjoy a challenge.
Finished these doors up a few weeks ago, and forgot to post the final pics! In the end I'm happy with the result. Solid sapele with shop sawn veneers & stave core construction, finished with Sikkens...
It's a good idea to use a dedicated rip blade, especially when ripping hard woods like maple, oak, etc. Something like 24 teeth max on a 10" blade, with a triple chip grind.
This may or may not be relevant, but here goes anyway. I have several grizzly machines, all of which are solid performing machines for the price. I bought a Shop Fox 12" jointer 5 years ago because...
So after spending the last 4 days finishing up another project, I've come back around to this flush bolt issue. I spent a few hours today making a simple adjustable jig to (hopefully) guide a long...
Thank you Tom. Believe me I have no intention on routing a channel. I'm perfectly comfortable making jigs & fixtures and have a design in mind that would use a couple 2" long flanged drill bushings...
Yep, doors are assembled. It was an oversight on my part I suppose. I guess I was over eager to build the doors and didn't think about building in a channel in the stile.
Thanks Dave. There will be a stop strip applied to the inactive door to catch the active one, and spring bronze weather stripping all around.
I'm building a large set of entry doors, and one door must be made inactive with flush bolts. The doors are nearly 9' tall, so the upper flush bolt will have a 24" extension rod connecting the jamb...
Thank you, gentlemen, for your thoughts & experience. Just placed an order for Cetol 1 & Cetol Door & Window so we shall see how it goes. Here are a few pics of the sapele doors that I just...
Hey guys. Earlier i posed this question by piggybacking on an old thread, which is bad form and i know better. So to correct the error of my ways, here it is in a new thread.
I just installed...
Imagine telling people that you don’t like the Shapton pro finisher, only to be told to buy a Shapton pro finisher LOL!
I have a Shapton 12k that is currently collecting dust in a drawer because...
Yes you’re correct Jim, I was referring to a portable job site saw, as opposed to a contractor’s saw. Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks for the feedback guys!
So I recently bought a Ridgid portable table saw for jobsite use, and I returned it after using it once. What a piece of junk! Very disappointing, as I have owned Ridgid tools in the past and found...
