LOL - three replies posted at the same time, all with the same solution
I have no trouble with the honing guide handed down through the many generations of my family.
Originally used for napping flint, works well for even the weirdest shaped blade.
Throw away your...
Since only 1/32" needs removing all around, I wonder if a slitting gauge (cutting gauge) might be effectively employed to define the new show edge and then just pare straight down with a broad...
While I am not a fan of their handles, I would go with the Two Cherries. The Henry Taylors (at least those I have) are rather soft (can be shaped with a file)
Depth for small routers can be increased in suitably small increments by judicious use of a light hammer. Initial set just by placing it loose on the workpiece and tightening - then tap. For a set...
John's post highlights why it really does depend on what you hope to make and how you want to do it. My routers (yes, plural) get used on almost every project, as do my ploughs.
If we had a sample...
I have prepped and used both the original AIs and the new MkIIs
Matthew of WorkShopHeaven here in the UK puts a lot of time into working with his suppliers to fine tune the product he offers.

This is a long compass. That the angle need be 90° or less just isn't so. Any fixed angle will describe an arc of a circle.
I don't remember the name (school was a long time ago) but there is a...
Yep, that's how I do it Glenn.
Alas, the text is quite clear and continues...

Interesting, thanks for posting.
There's actually a problem with the scribed line test as described:
The straightedge is ... turned end to end...
This test will only ensure mirrored symmetry of...
This would allow a shallower effective pitch without (significantly*) reducing edge durability. Just have to ensure the clearance angle isn't reduced too much.
* reduced clearance angle will I...
A back bevel is certainly effective for more awkward grain, though at the expense of slightly reduced surface quality (but much better than sanded or torn out) and reduced edge life (since this is...
I have both, and as already stated, the choice is all down to personal preference and perhaps the size of both you and the work. What you're used to will be a big factor. I started with just a number...
Yes, depth and lateral adjustments should be made with the lever cap locked down.
Different folks like different clamping pressures from their lever cap. The tighter it is, the harder it will be...
For fine work I use snapped microscope slides.
It needs to be a fresh break for the ultimate edge, as it dulls with time (oxidizes or something)
Same as chisels, I hollow grind on a wet grinder and freehand hone on either arkansas or waterstones, depending what's closest.
I do use a guide (Kell or Veritas) if I want to reestablish square or...
All this of course is, "In my experience."
Of ten bench planes, all bar three (Record CS88 smoother and T5 technical jack and Knight smoother) are Cliftons. Block planes and scrub are LN.

Does bluing reduce reflectiveness? I wouldn't use an HCl bath (acetic (or citric) acid and salt) because of this. I use the reflection of the stock edge in the blade to help gauge square and plumb.
By hand, I'd scribe my curve top and bottom, then cope and refine with rasps and files.
But by choice I'd bandsaw and bobbin sand - it's just makes it too easy to fair curves.
Without a grinder, the real problem I find with this approach is the inherent bevel creep, which stores up a nasty reshaping problem when the angle at the tip gets too obtuse.
It is easier to get...
D2 isn't so much hard as tough.
Old laminated pigstickers' faces are HARD. I have a monster old 5/8" OBMC (actually from Ray) which I still haven't managed to make any impression on. Need to get out...
Yup. Big, steep, well waxed slope. 15 DT saws to hand, with Wenzloff, Paik and Lunn in the pipeline and always on the lookout for oldies that catch my eye.
Have managed to keep other back saw...
The only Crown "chisels" I have are some butt "chisels." If anyone asks to borrow a chisel, they get these instead. I don't care if they come back chipped, I'd rather they didn't come back at all....
Expect you're right there, John. I was put off LV planes (as well as the saw) for a long time purely because of the non traditional aesthetic. But unhappily for my bank manager, Mr Lee sprays his...
