I recently moved mine with the help of a 23 year old college athlete. His question to me when we first tried to lift it was, "Is this bolted to the ground?" (wan't joking). This thing is HEAVY, even...
I use coffee grounds with 5 minute epoxy frequently and it works great. I don't believe there is any problem as far as food safety.
Congrats, Roger! That's Awesome!
Could try something multi axis. That would be a little different and fun.
Very cool idea! I think you really captured the look you were going for. I love seeing where people get their inspirations from. There's so much around us if we only open our eyes.
Nice score and I'm sure it will yield some gorgeous turnings but my back is starting to hurt just looking at it!
Great news that they caught it early, before damage was done. He should do very well. Richard is a great guy. I had the opportunity to drive him from Roanoke, VA to Greensboro, NC for a symposium a...
Very nice. I've thought about doing this for some time too. Are you using LED light to keep the heat down?
That is really beautiful. I, too, wonder how you keep it from cracking. I've had zero luck on end grain full log rounds. Would love to give it a go again if there is some trick to keeping it intact.
Many prefer to use these with the point removed as it allows for minor adjustments in position of the blank. With the point in place, minor adjustment is impossible as the point tracks right back...
Nice piece of wood and nicely turned. Very salvageable and well worth doing as long as you have enough meat on the bottom to create a depression so it sits flat. Feet are optional, after all.
Congratulations, John. Very nice article.
Love the pyro! Really fun piece.
That's a real beauty. Love everything about it.
I guess I'm in the minority on this one. It's just wood and it really does grow on trees. This happens to be an especially gorgeous piece and was well on its way to being a real winner. My approach...
I have both Bosch and Thompson handles and like them both very much. Right now I'm preferring the Bosch as the Thompson is feeling a bit too heavy. Am planning on removing the shot and seeing if that...
That is really cool, Francesco! Very well carved and has a real "space alien" feel to it. Very creative.
Congratulations, Roger! What are you going to spend your winnings on?
That is really outstanding pyro work, Jim! I'm sure it was very time consuming but the end result is worth it.
Wow! That's about as nice of a crotch feather as I've seen. Hope it survives the drying process.
Just outstanding! Incredible attention to detail.
This HF is made of ambrosia maple with an ebony collar. It is 5x7" about 3/16" thick and finished with Antique Oil and buffed with tripoli and Renaissance wax. It is also the first piece reviewed by...
Interesting design study. I agree with Wally. Not very big changes but makes a very noticeable difference.
Brian, that is a really interesting piece and there's a lot going on. If you're serious about wanting a real critique, I would suggest you check out the new website www.woodturnersunlimited.com....
