Good idea but the fit is poor in a subtle but random manner. I could probably glue up the whole project but I would then have to fill the small gaps. I don't want to do that. I could glue it up then...

I'm in the middle of a project that calls for many 6" long X 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" blocks of a variety of woods. Everything started out nicely square but wood movement and something I did wrong left me...
Finishing this cabinet. I've used baltic Birch ply in the past but wanted something different so went with poplar. Width of back is 18" (1/4" deep). I have eight 4" wide pieces of poplar and I was...
Thanks!
Looking at the space of the wedge it needs to be a parallel iron. Missed that as the wedge clearly doesn't fit this blade. I think I need a slightly thicker blade as well as a wider tang. ...
I think it would be best to decide on what steel to use, buy some from vendors like the new jersey barron, shape it then learn to heat treat or send it out for proper HT (about $10). I like the...
Of course there will be diversity but in general, does the blade taper thinner on the end opposite the cutting edge? I have to make one for a plane missing the blade.
Thanks,
dean
I tried a dado plane many years ago. It was an old plane but I had it finely tuned and sharp. We didn't get along. She kind of had a rough edge to her. I wish I had tried an HNT Gordon in the past....
Thanks,
Nice pics/work/shaving!
You're fortunate to have the grain in your favor. I wouldn't be able to fix mine down with the two outside screws as my side grain is perpendicular to the runners.
Blind in the front, through the back.
If it was through I would have considered my large mitre backsaw :)
I have tried 4.
Two small UK back saws with little set and about 14 TPI, one larger Backsaw (12") with a wider set as done by Tom Law years ago (still sharp) and the Vertas22 TPI crosscut gents saw....
Thanks Mel,
Dado or no dado?
I see that in Fine Woodworking, wood runners are usually placed by screws front and back. This however is with dimensionally stable plywood as the bearing piece. I am using solid wood. For smaller...
I would like to use a new approach for sawing the two sides of a dado before using the chisel and router plane. In the past I have scribed, clamped a wood block as an outside guide then used a...
Horizontal...and thanks so much for the response.

Here's a crop to show the area.
Building a dresser and I'm using a lower molding frame to attach to the carcase then adding four bracket feet to the lower frame. The bracket feet are mitered at 45 degrees and each horizontal length...
Hi Brian,
If I were to go with hand tools how would you approach the blind dados? I hesitate to use the router as it feels like I lose control of the accuracy I get with hand tools. I'd rather...
Sadly for me, I acquiesced and I am using the router, a piece of equipment that I am not adept with. I don't even have jigs as I became a hand tool guy long ago. With so many repetitive cuts I will...
Thanks! I knew there was an approach that would straight forward like this.
This is a series of cabinets with a foot stool that matches the cabinets style and primary wood.
I’m hoping someone here might have a better idea for placing runners on the side walls of a cabinet I’m building.
The cabinet is 6 foot tall and has 10 drawers above and below the cabinet divider....
I've always wanted the Lie-Nielsen #51 and think this might be the time to buy it...if it can be used.
I have a 4 ft long 15" wide 3/4" sapele that needs some edge touch up. The 2 properly...
Might this also work with the sawdust from a darker wood such as Black Walnut and a slurry with danish oil or would that create a new problem?
I have used reduced Pore-O-Pac in walnut for filling and contrast with red oak. My piece is due this week and no one carries the Walnut Pore-O-Pac. I vaguly remember an alternative pore filling...
Hoang N Nguyen- Thanks- That's a nice looking jig for variable width dados. In my case I can just use a bit without a bushing so I was hoping there might be a crosscut track system with a universal...
I have multiple furniture projects going and a greater need for numerous dados and square end boards (for dovetails)on boards that are from 15" to 18" wide. I don't have a sliding table for my PM TS;...
