Because you're plane is from the Hercules line, that type study will not fit. I don't have my type study online yet, but it's in my book.
Sargent made that plane, probably out of the early Hercules line.
Have Donnelly pick them up, auction them, and give the proceeds to Mis West Tool Collectors association
There definitely is some satisfaction in returning a clump of rust to a nice usable tool.

Merit was a line sold by Sears. At least some of these were made by Sargent.

Sargent bench planes were cast. They never made anything else. If you have a VBM that fell that far and didn't break, your either really really lucky, or you have a VBM cap on a V&B plane.
