Like Alan I made my own also, I made mine from sheet metal, and they work great, I custom made mine to fit my ducting and flexible hose.

Dean I used a flexible connection which I purchased from a sheetmetal fab place that makes HIVAC ducting, as you can see from the picture its attached to the cyclone and lid. I found that it works...

Mark I wouldnt use any lighter than 24 gauge for your cyclone,
Another thing to keep in mind is being able to bend and roll the sheetmetal if you do use a heavier guage. "24 gauge is easier to work...

Jerome, from memory I dont think I really had many problems with cuts while working with the sheetmetal, I took my time trying to avoid any sharp bits.

I made mine 149mm Dia (149 millimeter = 5.86 inch) and the 6" flexible DC hose fits on perfectly. Hope this helps.

so far the mini cyclone as seen in the last couple of pics has cost about $10AU in materials, and the satifaction of building it yourself,

The mini cyclone will be a mobile unit. I was thinking of fitting some castors under the base of the collection drum.

Yes it will be hooked up to a shop vac and be used for hand held power tools.

I then joined the Upper cylinder to the cone and soldered all the way around the flange.

I also took some Pics of the Mini cyclone next to my Other cyclone to show the difference in size.

Next was the air ramp I marked a 6mm (1/4") line on the outer and inner sides which I cut tabs along and bent the tabs at approx 90 deg . (The tabs allow the air ramp to be soldered into position)

Once I finished soldering all the pieces I cut and bent up the tabs along the opening on the upper cylinder to be able to fit the inlet pipe. I also swaged up a flange on both cone and the upper...

Once I finished rolling and bending the cyclone pieces into shape I was ready to solder them together, Starting with the cone I clamped both ends of the join with some vise grips and cleaned the area...
