No. It was heartwood.
I seriously need some help. I finished turning and sanding the outside and bottom of a cherry bowl today and turned a 3/8 inch tenon on it to turn the inside. As I was removing the glue block from...
Thanks everybody. A rubber mat is working well and is quieter as well.
Great idea. I'll look for a piece of rubber tomorrow
Does anyone have good ideas for how to restrain a portable compressor so it doesn" "walk" around the shop when running? Thanks
Thanks for all your comments. The issue did amount to truing the wheels. I had been using the hand held thing and they were way off. I bought the Wolvarine diamon point and trued the wheels and...
I recently bought the One Way wheel balancing kit for my 8 inch slow speed grinder. I balanced the wheel and it appears to be balanced on the base according ding to the directions but once I put the...

Thanks to all for your feedback. I value what you have to say. And yes, Brian, I am willing to critique my own work in light of the conversations currently going on.
Like some of you, I would...
Thanks, Dave. Time will tell now.
I haven't posted anything for a while. My wife's just finished chemo, so there have been other duties to tend to. This was turned with two different pieces of Brizalian Cherry, finish is Antique...
Thanks to all you Creekers who welcomed and encouraged me with you nice comments. I "hear" the wood calling in my shop, so something else will happen, soon, I hope!

Thanks for the replies, and no, I didn't have any trouble with tear out. It was a bit hard to sand, but then, I may have been doing that incorrectly too. A couple of threads on sanding helped a lot.
I've been reading posts for a while now and think it is time to join in. I've been turning once in a blue moon for a couple of years, but have only had the time to do anything consistently for about...
