A few years ago I sent Tom a flat side 605 1/2 bedrock plane to be resurfaced. It was pitted, rusted, and had been abused and wasn't sure if it could be saved. When I received the plane back from...
I have both, I tend to reach for the 5 1/2 more than any other plane I own. I have no scientific reason why, I just like it more than any other plane I have and its always on the bench!
I advise you to do research on the company who makes the safe and if it has an electronic lock understand you will not be the only person with the combination. Several articles and you tube videos...
Good morning I sent you a PM
Jim
I do the same way as you. Works best for me.
Makita 18 volt light. I got it for Christmas and I use it all the time. My eyes aren’t what they use to be and it helps immensely
Very nice plane. I think it would be cool to make a limited edition in the Record blue color.
I use a LN #9. Can be difficult to find but it is an excellent plane.
I just purchased a RH shooting board. Arrived very quick.
I own the Veritas Side Rabbet Plane and I feel confident it can handle multi users. I think it is a great plane and comes in handy when needed.
I agree with Derek. The veritas plow plane is based loosely off the Record 44 and is a very good plane.
I chose the LN chisels due to how well they fit in my hands. To me they were the most comfortable chisels. If you are doing a lot of chisel work I think its important for the chisel to be comfortable...
I like bevel up planes the best. I personally think the LV bevel up planes are better than the LN bevel up planes. LV has better steel choices and they are easier to adjust. I also think the Norris...
I received a LN 51/2 for my retirement gift about 5 years ago. One of my favorite planes. I have always believed the the #5 and #5 1/2 are underrated. I use them for smoothing, jointing and rough...
I may go against the grain here a little but to me the most important thing in buying a chisel is how does it feel in my hand. I have had many brands of chisels and my favorites are the Lie Nielsen...
If you dont use the tools I would sell them and buy something you want. The BD planes you have will work with most North American hardwoods.
My favorite plane sizes are a 5 and 5 1/2 so I upgraded my Stanley planes to LN and LV planes. I have a LV BUJ and a LN 5 1/2 and use them for 80% of my hand plane task. Using a LV and/or LV plane is...
A follow up to my earlier post concerning LV PM-11 blades. As mentioned before I sold the apron plane and primarily used my LVBUJ for roughing work. I decided to give the PM-11 blade another shot so...
I know a lot of people have great experiences with the new PM steel and in terms of sharpness I have too however, I have experienced micro chipping on both A2 and PM blades. I ground the blade as...
I have had the same issues with an apron plane and a LVBUJ. I even contacted LV and they suggested a 30 degree bevel which did help but still have issues with the edge chipping. I experienced...
I have a Clifton #7 and it is a very good plane. Weighs over ten pounds and just plows through wood with minimal effort.
I have had problems with Lee Valley blade edges crumbling but never Lie Nielsen. The A2 blades are my favorite.
The plane I enjoy using the most is my LN 48 tongue and groove plane. I find that plane also plants a seed in a die hard power tool woodworker about the ease and enjoyment a hand tool brings to the...
I primarily use bevel up planes and sold most of my Stanleys. I did keep a 605 with an orange frog, 605 1/2 that was surface ground by Tablesaw Tom, and a 608, all square side bedrocks. All have a...
