I buy mostly rough, and prefer it greatly for all the reasons already mentioned. I'm forced to buy S2S for a couple of wood varieties because that's all that's available locally.

If it's a good wood for use as a cutting board, it's not going to be pleasant to carve. I'd suggest getting your carving chisels really really sharp before you start, and re-sharpening often.

The motor does feel a little underpowered to me, but then again all I've used it for so far is crosscutting a bunch of 6/4 hardwoods (mesquite and rock maple). I was also a little worried about...

I just picked up an old MBF a couple weeks ago, and have been using an 8 1/2" Freud LU83 which was reccomended over on the Delphi forums. I'm sure the special order 9" blade from Forrest is better,...

Glueing will most likely just cause cracks when the wood moves later on. Most of the initial movement will most likely be shrinkage, so I'd tap/clamp the pieces as tight as possible to install. One...

I did a cabinet with faceframes and door panels in mesquite, and the door rails and stiles in pecan. It was more of a bold contrast than appeals to me, but the clients who ordered it loved it.

All of the ones I've used had short arbors and narrow blade guards, pretty much limiting you to a single blade. Also, setting the depth precisely is pretty trial and error, or at least it is on mine.

Started cleaning it up today, and surprisingly it looks like I won't have to do much to it at all. The keyed power switch and numbered labels all over it lead me to believe that it came from a wood...

    Swap Meet Find

I went to a swap meet this morning looking to replace some old hand planes that were stolen a while back, and ended up coming home with a Dewalt radial arm saw. I was able to test it there, and is...

About a year ago I got my first RAS for free from a fellow creeker. It's a c-man that looks like it's from the 80's, and was in pretty poor shape when I got it. I planned on just using it for...

Another vote for all of the above. For me it depends on the size/shape/style of the tenons, how precise they need to be, how many there are to cut, what machines are currently set up for what, etc....

I have the Harbor Freight 2hp, and I think it's a good machine for the money. The stock filter bag is essentially useless, so you need to figure on buying a nice filter if you're not going to vent...

I've not been impressed with the Kreg jigs I've used so far, but as this is a hobby for me, I can't justify anything more expensive. I've found that I can get good results by using a parrellel clamp...

I've had a couple of the ridgids, and like them a lot. I run mine through a shop made Thien style pre-separator, and use it in conjunction with my DC for a lot of my tools.

HF dust collector on it's side?
